Together with Segovia and Yepes, Regino Sainz de la Maza (1896-1981) is one of the great figures of Spanish guitar. In 1940, he was the first guitarist to play Joaquin Rodrigo's famous Aranjuez Concerto. The Festival pays tribute to the maestro with a specialist of the genre, Spanish guitarist Juan José Saenz. A fine evening for all of those who wish to discover the golden age of classical guitar.

The Geneva Conservatoire is proud to count Dusan Bogdanovitch amongst its professors. A composer, improvisator and top soloist, this musician of exceptional talent produces music that brings together classical elements, jazz and ethnical flavours. The Festival pays tribute to this legendary guitar player with a recital dedicated to his own work, with a premiere of a piece as a special bonus!

For the first time, the Festival is delighted to bring its public fado. Besides melancholy songs evoking heartbreak, exile and longing for the past, fado is defined by the Portuguese guitar, a fascinating instrument. The star of the evening is Carla Pires, a young singer in the tradition of the great Amalia Rodrigues, but with a penchant for more contemporary sounds.

A Cante Jondo concert is always a rare event. The guitar calls out to the voice, that organ which carries this music and these words since the dawn of time. Virtuoso musician Rafael Andujar, present at St-Jean at the 2001 Festival, is back with a vengeance, accompanied by the great cantaor Jesus Chozas.
