Acoustic Trio

Christy Doran

Born in Dublin (Ireland), Christy Doran has lived in Luzern (Switzerland) since childhood. He was introducedto music by his father, himself a singer of Irish ballads.

As a guitarist, in the seventies, he formed the Swiss band «OM». In the following years, his career has included lots of solo concerts. The guitarist has explored further possibilities offered by solo guitar.

In the eighties, he took part in numerous bands: duet, trio, quartet. He also formed a septuor, the «Christy Doran's May 84 Septet».

Doran played and still plays with musicians such as Fredy Studer (see the project «Doran/Studer/Minton/Bates & Ali play the music of Jimi Hendrix»), Jean-François Jeny-Clark and Jamaaladeen Tacuma («Double-Bass Quartet»), Robert Dick and Steve Arüelles («A.D.D.-Trio»). In 1997, Doran formed the «Christy Doran's NEW BAG» with Bruno Amstad, Fabian Kuratli, Wolfgang Zwiaver and, from 2001, Hans-Peter Pfammatter.

Christy Doran's present band is the «Kaenzig-Doran-Kuratli acoustic Trio», with Heiri Kaenzig playing a five string double-bass, Fabian Kuratli at the drums and Doran at the acoustic guitar.

Christy Doran participated in more than forty recordings. He now gives Jazz lessons at the «Haute école de Musique de Lucerne».

Heiri Kaenzig

Born in New-York, USA, Heiri Kaenzig now lives in Switzerland. This bass player is one of the rare Europaen Jazz musicians to be signed by big American labels such as Verve (Vienna Art Orchestra, Helen Merill/Betty Carter), Blue Note (Thierry Lang Trio) and CBS (Nena).

His international reputation is mainly founded on his commitment in the Vienna Art Orchestra with which he recorded many CDs and toured the world.

Fabian Kuratli

Fabian Kuratli is part of the first generation of musicians that has been growing up with Technomusic. His playing is strongly influenced by the styles of the world of techno-, house-, dub- and breakbeat-music. But his secret love has always been the jazz of the sixties with the great bands of John Coltrane and Miles Davis (Maybe for that reason he hasbeen named in a review as "the Elvin Jones of the backbeat"). His unique style of playing made him become one of the most wanted drummers in Switzerland.

As a bandleader and composer of his group called FAB4 he catched the attention of the jazz scene. His first CD was described as "the most innovative swiss production of the last decade". As a sideman he has played with George Gruntz, Harald Haerter, Dom Um Romao, Robert Dick, Asita Hamidi and many others.
